SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions 2025
DMU contributes to SDG 16 through transparent governance, student participation in decisions, and ethics in education and research.
Transparent governance
The QAIE portal, launched in April 2025, publishes DMU's policies with a searchable archive of past versions and lets any stakeholder propose a change, which is reviewed before approval by the Deans' Council — Link.
Governance is set out in the Governance policy (A.2); conflicts of interest, compliance and ethics in the Conflict of Interest (I.1) and Compliance (I.5) policies and the Code of Conduct (D.7.1).
In May 2025 DMU began international institutional accreditation with the UK Quality Assurance Agency.
Student voice
“Your Voice Matters” Student Council elections (March 2025) (Link)
32 nominees stood for 13 Student Council seats after an orientation on fair and transparent campaigning; 109 students joined the virtual campaign events.

Students sit on the University Council, Academic Council and committees including Sustainability and QAIE under the Student Participation in Governance policy (E.7) and the Student Council policy (E.6), both reviewed in February 2025. Complaints are heard under the Student Grievance and Appeals policy (E.13).
Ethics in education and research
AI Usage policy (C.7) and an AI Integration Framework presented at Abu Dhabi University's AI-governance roundtable (November 2025).
DMU spoke on academic integrity in digital exams (Turnitin, June 2025) and on the ethics of “Internet of Bodies” technologies (Monash SHARE 2025).
Research ethics review by DMU's IRB under the Research Ethics policy (J.5); a DMU professor served on the Dubai Research Ethics Committee, honoured by DHA in 2025.
Safe communities
Dubai Police briefed every new student on drug prevention and electronic crime (August 2025), and medical students reached more than 616 school pupils with substance-use prevention (November 2025).
