SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
2024

1. Introduction
Dubai Medical University (DMU) affirms its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by actively fostering multi-sectoral and international collaborations across academia, healthcare, research, and governance. These partnerships serve as foundational platforms for innovation, knowledge sharing, and community impact, aligned with the university’s mission and the UAE National Agenda.
2. Strategic MoUs and collaborations
DMU has established more than 30 active Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with regional and international institutions. These MoUs support:
· Academic exchange
· Joint teaching programs
· Cross-institutional research
· Clinical clerkships and professional training

3. NGO and government collaborations for SDG implementation
DMU contributes to SDG implementation through direct outreach and campaign-based collaboration:
· Antimicrobial Stewardship Awareness Week (Nov 2024): Conducted in partnership with Rashid Hospital, Nad Al Hamar PHC, and Latifa Hospital. Involved public lectures, booths, and student-led health promotion.

· World Heart Day (Oct 2024): Co-organized with Cornerstone Health Development Center at a local school, educating students and families through hands-on CPR workshops and health booths.


· Career Guidance Day (2024): Hosted with support from external healthcare and academic stakeholders to support alumni career advancement.

These initiatives demonstrate a whole-of-society approach to SDG-aligned healthcare and education.
4. Global Benchmarking and Curriculum Innovation
In October 2023, DMU launched its strategic initiative, "Towards a Future-Proof New Medical Curriculum", guided by international curriculum consultants including Maastricht University. This process included:
· Review of EmiratesMEDs and other global competency frameworks
· Comparative analysis of assessment models
· Integration of sustainability and community health into program outcomes

This collaboration reflects DMU’s contribution to global academic benchmarking and development of international best practice in medical education.
6. Conclusion
DMU’s strategic, academic, and community partnerships are central to its mission and its contribution to the SDGs. Through structured MoUs, collaborative outreach, and curriculum reform aligned with international standards, DMU continues to lead with impact in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
