Dubai Medical University (DMU) is dedicated to continuously enhancing its contribution toward achieving SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities. The University actively pursues initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, and accessibility for all. DMU has made consistent progress in this area through a range of targeted initiatives and programs, some of which include the following:

Demographic Analysis of Students from Developing Countries (Lower or Lower-Middle-Income)
Dubai Medical University (DMU) admits students from low-income and lower-middle-income countries, ensuring equal opportunities for all. The following graph illustrates the steady representation and upward trend in the number of students from developing countries over the past three academic years (2022–2024).

1st generation Students Starting a degree
At Dubai Medical University (DMU), a total of 26 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) students commenced their studies in the Academic Year 2023–2024. These students represent the new intake enrolled in the university’s undergraduate medical degree programs, aligned with UNESCO ISCED-2011 Level 6 classification. This figure reflects DMU’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards and providing quality medical education within an innovative and supportive learning environment.
Financial Aid to Students from Lower income and Lower-Middle income countries
Dubai Medical University (DMU) has an established Student Tuition Fee, Refund, and Scholarship Policy (E.16) that governs the provision of financial aid and tuition fee discounts to students from diverse economic backgrounds.
DMU offers partial and full scholarships as applicable, ensuring that talented students from low-income and lower-middle-income countries have equitable access to quality medical and health sciences education. The university provides special financial aid and tuition discounts to students from developing and conflict-affected regions such as Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, and Egypt.
DMU also collaborates through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner institutions and organizations in these countries to extend dedicated support for deserving students.

Faculty and Staff Representation from Developed and Developing Countries (AY 2023–2024)
The graph below illustrates the diversity of Dubai Medical University’s workforce during the academic year 2023–2024, highlighting its inclusive recruitment practices. The majority of faculty and staff (125 individuals) originate from developing countries, while 9 members come from developed countries. This distribution reflects DMU’s strong commitment to providing equitable employment opportunities and fostering international collaboration.

DMU Culture Day
The Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University jointly organized DMU Culture Day on 29 February 2024 as part of the university’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and promoting cross-cultural understanding. The event brought together students, faculty, and staff from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds to celebrate unity in diversity. Participants showcased traditional attire, cuisines, music, and performances representing their home countries, creating an enriching platform for cultural exchange and dialogue.
This initiative served to cultivate cultural awareness, respect for differences, and a strong sense of belonging among the student community. It further reflected DMU’s institutional values of equality, mutual respect, and inclusiveness—key elements of its diversity and inclusion framework. Through such events, DMU aims to enhance students’ intercultural competence, encourage appreciation of global perspectives, and reinforce social cohesion within the academic environment.

VIP IFTAR AND NETWORKING EVENT AT NABTA HEALTH CLINIC
The Community Engagement Unit attended a VIP Iftar and Majlis - networking event on 25th March’24 at Nabta Health Clinic. The purpose was to explore potential collaborations and establish connections with physicians for future endeavors.

Ramadan Celebration at DMU
On 20 March 2024, Dubai Medical University (DMU) organized a Ramadan celebration bringing together faculty, staff, and students to foster community spirit and cultural understanding. The event served as a platform for shared reflection and unity during the holy month, promoting inclusivity, respect for cultural diversity, and social cohesion within the DMU community.

DMU International Happiness Day Giveaway
Dubai Medical University (DMU) celebrated International Happiness Day on 20 March 2024 with a special Happiness Day Giveaway. The initiative aimed to spread joy, boost morale, and promote overall well-being among students and staff, fostering a positive and uplifting atmosphere within the DMU community.

RAMADAN FOOD PACKAGING EVENT IN COLLABORATION WITH UAE FOOD BANK AND SAEED AHMED LOOTAH CHARITY FOUNDATION
On 27 March 2024, Dubai Medical University (DMU) students, faculty, and staff participated in a Ramadan Food Packaging Event in collaboration with the UAE Food Bank and the Saeed Ahmed Lootah Charity Foundation. The initiative promoted compassion, generosity, and social responsibility, as participants worked together to prepare food packages for those in need. The event reflected DMU’s commitment to community service, inclusion, and reducing inequalities.

DMU Students Research Day
On 22 March 2024, Dubai Medical University (DMU) organized the Students Research Day to promote research culture, innovation, and academic excellence. A total of 30 students from the College of Medicine presented research posters, and 8 students delivered oral presentations, showcasing their scientific work. The event, attended by over 120 students, aimed to enhance research outreach, critical thinking, and scientific communication skills

LEADERSHIP TRAINING SESSION FOR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES

On 26 March 2024, Dubai Medical University (DMU) conducted a guidance and leadership training session for student representatives, including batch leaders, student union members, and students in governance roles. The session focused on developing leadership skills, teamwork, and effective communication, empowering students to contribute actively to university governance. This initiative aimed to promote equal participation, inclusion, and representation among the student peers.

GENERAL VOLUNTEERING AT HAQ AL LAILA CELEBRATION WITH PEOPLE OF DETERMINATION
On 21 February 2024, students and faculty from Dubai Medical College for Girls (DMCG) participated in the Haq Al Laila celebration organized by the Dubai Club for People of Determination (DCPD) to honor Emirati traditions and promote inclusion. The DMCG Community Engagement Unit collaborated with DCPD by providing volunteering support throughout the event, with 10 students and 2 faculty members assisting as supervisors. The initiative fostered community spirit, cultural appreciation, and social inclusion, strengthening bonds between students and People of Determination

MEDICAL VOLUNTEERING AT FAZZA PARA ARCHERY CHAMPIONSHIP FOR PEOPLE OF DETERMINATION
Dubai Medical University (DMU) participated in the Fazza Para Archery Championship for People of Determination, organized by the Dubai Club for People of Determination from 29th February to 8th March 2024. Through the Community Engagement Unit, DMU nominated and deployed 10-15 medical student volunteers to assist the event’s paramedic team. The volunteers supported the team in providing first aid and emergency medical assistance to players when required.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF FIVE NEW STUDENT CLUBS AT DMCG
Dubai Medical University (DMU) actively promotes student engagement to enhance campus culture and foster holistic development. Through various academic, social, and community initiatives, DMU provides students with opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and professional advancement. These activities aim to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative campus environment, encouraging students to network, share ideas, and contribute meaningfully to both the university community and society at large.

UNIVERSITY-WIDE ONLINE MEETING TO INTRODUCE NEW STUDENT CLUBS
Dubai Medical University (DMU) organized a university-wide online meeting with the five newly established student clubs on 12th February 2024. The purpose of this session was to introduce the clubs and invite students to join diverse extracurricular activities that promote community engagement, collaboration, and personal growth.

Hemaya Forum for University Students
Dubai Medical University (DMU) students participated in the Hemaya Forum for University Students on 16th February 2024, organized by the International Protection Center at Dubai Police. The forum provided a platform to discuss student issues and explore solutions to enhance community safety and wellbeing.
HAG AL LAILA CELEBRATION BY THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
Dubai Medical University (DMU), along with the College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy, celebrated Hag Al Laila on 21 February 2024 to honor Emirati traditions and promote the UAE ’s rich cultural heritage. The event included interactive cultural activities and traditional treats, fostering cultural appreciation, social cohesion, and inclusivity among students.
Women Empowerment
DMU encourages women empowerment. Female employees are available on many leadership positions as follows:
Around 70% of the faculty members are females.
25% of the females are holding academic designation as Professor or Associate Professor.
Significant numbers from female faculty represent as committee members in various committees at college level.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION BY THE COLLEGE OF MEDICINE AND COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
The College of Medicine and the College of Pharmacy at Dubai Medical University (DMU) jointly celebrated International Women’s Day on 6 March 2024 in collaboration with Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls (DPCG). The event recognized the achievements and contributions of women in academia and healthcare, promoting empowerment, equality, and leadership. It provided a platform for faculty, students, and alumni to share experiences, inspire future leaders, and reinforce DMU’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity in alignment with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT EXPO DUBAI
Dubai Medical University (DMU) embraced the theme “Empowering Women: Building a Sustainable Future”, emphasizing gender equality and sustainability. The event, held on 8 March 2023 at the Dubai Expo, fostered meaningful discussions, knowledge sharing, and collective action toward empowering women across all sectors. It served as a platform to celebrate women’s achievements, encourage collaboration, and advocate for positive change in support of women and girls worldwide, aligning with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
International Day of Happiness
The Community Engagement Unit of DMCG, in collaboration with Apollo Clinic and DPCG, celebrated the International Day of Happiness on March 20, 2023, under the theme “Be Mindful, Be Grateful, Be Kind.” The event included an interactive session on self-care and mindfulness by Dr. Balu Pitchiah, distribution of goodie bags, and shared celebrations with Dubai Pharmacy College for Girls.
