SDG 06 – Clean Water and Sanitation

2024

Dubai Medical University (DMU) is committed to promoting sustainable water and sanitation practices across its campus, ensuring the health and well-being of students, staff, and the wider community.

  • Safe and clean drinking water: DMU provides easily accessible potable water throughout the campus, including filtered water stations that offer free, safe drinking water to all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Hygienic sanitation facilities: All campus restrooms are regularly maintained and equipped with water-efficient fixtures, taps, and handwashing stations to ensure cleanliness while minimizing water wastage.

  • Wastewater management: The university collaborates with local sanitation authorities to manage wastewater responsibly, supporting environmental sustainability and public health.

Environmental Sustainability and Water Conservation

The One Root One Communi-tree campaign at Dubai Medical College for Girls (DMCG), conducted in collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group, promoted environmental sustainability through waste collection and recycling of materials like plastic, paper, glass, aluminium, and mobile phones. By reducing waste and encouraging responsible resource use, the initiative directly supports the goals of ensuring sustainable water management and reducing water pollution caused by waste.

Through collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students, the campaign minimized potential contaminants that could affect local water systems and contributed to creating a cleaner environment. The success of the plastic recycling team, which met its targets and earned DMCG the chance to plant a tree under the “For Our Emirates We Plant” initiative, reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable ecosystem, aligning with the water conservation and sanitation objectives.
