SDG 05 – Gender Equality
2024

Dubai Medical University embodies the spirit of SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by providing women with equitable access to quality higher education in medicine, pharmacy, and health sciences.
In a world where women remain underrepresented in healthcare leadership roles, these institutions serve as dedicated platforms for female empowerment, equipping young women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead in clinical, research, and academic fields.
Combating discrimination against women and girls
DMU was among the first medical and pharmacy colleges for girls in the UAE and GCC region, founded with the vision to enable women to pursue professional medical education at a time when opportunities were predominantly limited to men.
Admission policies prioritize inclusive access for women from all backgrounds. Women-only programs eliminate traditional barriers to entry.
Ensure women’s participation and leadership
The colleges at DMU foster an environment where women are not only learners but leaders, researchers, and community advocates.
The presence of female faculty members in senior academic roles provides strong role models for young women entering the health sciences.
Equal rights to education and resources
Scholarships and financial aid programs (such as Merit Based Scholarship, Scholarship provided for Nursing Program) enhance accessibility for women from diverse backgrounds.
Thousands of women have graduated from DMCG and DPCG and now serve as physicians, pharmacists, and healthcare leaders across the UAE and internationally. These graduates represent a tangible outcome of gender equality in education — women who not only enter but thrive in professional domains historically dominated by men.
Proportion of women first-generation
In 2024, a total of 116 female students commenced their education at the university, among whom 26 identified as first-generation students — the first in their immediate family to attend a university at any level.
