DMU contributes to SDG 1 by engaging students and faculty in outreach that reduces vulnerability, improves access to basic health information and services for underserved groups, and builds community solidarity.
Community outreach to vulnerable groups
Inclusive health education for students with hearing impairment (Link)
DMU volunteers delivered the Sehat Watan “Silent Echoes of Wellness” sessions at Al Amal School for the Deaf, using sign language, visual aids, and interactive activities to teach healthy eating and hygiene. Materials were adapted for accessibility, with two-way dialogue to reinforce key messages. The initiative reduced barriers to essential health knowledge and modeled inclusive communication for students and staff.

Psychosocial inclusion for children of determination (Link)
DMU students (Batch 35), guided by the Community Engagement Unit and supervised by Dr. Nujood AlShirawi, supported a therapeutic horse-riding program (8 Jan–8 Mar) with the Nabdh Al Emarat Volunteer Team in coordination with the Ministry of Community Development and CDA Dubai. Volunteers facilitated structured, supervised sessions that built confidence, social participation, and joy for children of determination, demonstrating the impact of inclusive, community-based wellbeing activities.

No-cost community health services and prevention
Beat Diabetes Walkathon (Dubai) (Link)DMCG students joined the event with Ms. Aileen Minorias and Ms. Rosita Pangilinan, staffing activity booths and supporting free blood-sugar testing for all ages. By promoting active lifestyles and early detection, the walkathon helps prevent complications that can push households into poverty. The inclusive, multi-company, multi-community participation built social support and encouraged continued engagement.

Workforce safety training for public transport drivers (Link)
DMU’s Community Engagement Unit delivered first-aid awareness to 150 RTA bus drivers, strengthening safety and resilience among a predominantly wage-earning workforce.

DMU students regularly volunteered at the Dubai Club for People of Determination (e.g., Haq Al Laila), reinforcing social inclusion and community care.
