Purpose and Scope

Purpose:


To create an environment that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable for all employees, including those with disabilities.



Scope:


This policy applies to all job applicants’ employees of the DMU also including students, researchers, post-doctoral fellows, staff, faculty, institutional leadership, members of governing body, anyone participating in DMU businesses or activities example visitors, vendors, contractors, volunteers).


This policy applies to all stakeholders of DMU.


  

Abbreviations and Definitions

Disability: a physical or mental condition of a human being that restricts, limits a person's movements, activities or senses.


Equity:  Considering the range of human qualities and attributes into account and providing each individual with what is needed to be proactive and successful.


Equality: Providing each individual with similar or same opportunities, ensuring fairness in processes and outcomes so that each individual has an equal opportunity to perform to the  their abilities.


Diversity: The range of human disparities, including diverse talents, backgrounds, perspectives, views, skills, and abilities.


Inclusion: An ongoing practice of embracing diversity, equity, and taking action to create a supportive and welcoming environment


  

Policy

Policy Statement:


All employees and stakeholders should display values of fairness and equitable treatment, inclusiveness, collegiality, respect, integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior


There should be no discrimination against any employee or job applicant based on their disability, race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.


Reasonable accommodation should be provided to all employees of DMU with disabilities to enable them to perform their job duties. This may include modifications to the work environment, job duties, or work schedule.


All employees should have the opportunity to contribute to the success of our organization, regardless of their background or abilities.


Accessibility:


workplace should be accessible to all employees, including those with disabilities. This includes providing accessible facilities, technology, and communication methods.


Diversity and Inclusion:


All employees at DMU should value diversity and inclusion in the workplace and actively seek to create a culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all employees. 


Training and Education:


Training should be provided to all employees on disability, equity, diversity, and inclusion to promote awareness and understanding of these issues.


We believe that these policies are essential to creating a workplace that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable for all employees, including those with disabilities.


All Departments and Units should be committed to continuously improving our policies and practices to ensure meeting the needs of all employees.


  

 

Procedure for Policy:


All procedure for the above policies should be adopted to comply with the above policies:


 

  • Accessibility: DMU shall have procedures to ensure that all event venues, materials, and communications are accessible to attendees with disabilities. This may include providing sign language interpreters, captioning, accessible transportation, or other accommodations as needed.

  • Diversity: DMU shall have procedures to ensure that events are inclusive and celebrate diversity. This may include promoting diversity in your marketing materials, inviting diverse speakers, and incorporating cultural traditions into your events.

  •  Equity: DMU shall have procedures to ensure that events are equitable and provide equal opportunities for all attendees. This may include providing scholarships or financial assistance to attendees who may otherwise be unable to attend.

  • Inclusion: DMU shall implement procedures to ensure that all attendees feel welcome and included in the event. This may include providing networking opportunities, creating safe spaces for marginalized groups, and providing resources for attendees who may experience discrimination or harassment.

  • DMU should implement procedures to take care of people with disability, diversity, equity, and inclusion is to create a culture of respect and inclusivity within DMU by prioritizing these values, and can create events that are meaningful, accessible, and enjoyable for all attendees.
