SDG 09 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure 2025

DMU contributes to SDG 9 by building research and teaching infrastructure, supporting student innovation and connecting research with industry.

Infrastructure

• Sterile Compounding Laboratory, inaugurated with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi pharmacy leaders on 12 February 2025 — Link.

• Department of Integrative Medicine, the first in the UAE (October 2025).

• The Simulation Center hosted International Simulation Week and the national surgical skills bootcamp, and drew a visit from Dubai Ambulance (DCAS) on AI in clinical simulation.

• The QAIE portal, launched April 2025, put DMU's policies, appraisals, course files and research ethics review online.

Research

Research is governed by the Research Integrity policy (J.6) and the Intellectual Property Rights policy (I.2). DMU's IRB joined the national UAE Research Map Platform workshop with MOHESR and ATRC in September 2025, and a faculty session on patents (October) helped researchers turn findings into intellectual property.

Student innovation

• Pharmedic, an AI healthcare-information platform by the Student Council President, won the Sandooq Al Watan HealthTech Pitch Competition (April 2025).

• MediLingo+, an AI medical-translation app, placed third in the UAE AI & IoT Challenge and was invited to GITEX Expand North Star 2025.

• Nursing students designed SAND, a smartwatch for elderly people and people with epilepsy, for Sandooq Al Watan.

• Pharmacy students won Gold at the International Creative Innovation Idea Competition 2025 for a medication-adherence app.

• DMU held its first Innovation Showcase in November 2025.
