SDG 03 – Good Health and Well-being 2025

As a university of medicine, pharmacy, nursing and biomedical science, DMU contributes to SDG 3 through the health workforce it educates, the research it publishes and the health services its students and faculty take into the community. QA Hub's events register records 63 community engagement events in 2025, eleven of them classed as health and wellbeing outreach, run under the Community Engagement policy (K.1).

Screening and prevention in the community

Pharmacy, medicine and nursing students ran a cessation booth at Century Mall with EHS's Dubai Public Health Center, counselling smokers with the 5 A's model and offering free blood pressure and glucose checks.

Final-year medical students worked with Rashid Hospital's respiratory and vascular surgery teams to teach patients and visitors about lung health and deep vein thrombosis.

Pharmacy students taught shoppers about rational antibiotic use during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, and the College of Pharmacy ran a DHA-accredited stewardship workshop (6 CPD points) for UAE clinicians, aligned with the UAE National Action Plan on AMR 2025–2031.

Health education in schools

Medical students delivered sessions in Dubai and Sharjah schools on cervical cancer and HPV, epilepsy first aid, malaria (120+ pupils), autism, hand hygiene, genetic screening, breast cancer and substance use. The largest, at Lycée Français International, reached more than 616 students in grades 9–12 (Link).

In 2025 students launched the Hope Lab Hive for mental-health awareness (November), marked World Mental Health Day (October), and the community joined the Dubai Fitness Challenge through a month-long walking challenge, Dubai Run and the Nakheel Run. Students also gave first aid at the Ramadan Walking Challenge with the Ministry of Sports.
