SDG 15 – Life on Land 2025
DMU contributes to SDG 15 by planting native species and teaching students the value of plants as medicines.
Planting native species
DMU's “Plant a Ghaf” project, run with Goumbook's Give a Ghaf programme, plants the Ghaf — the UAE's national tree — and other native species that support local wildlife and need little irrigation. At the sustainability launch on 30 June 2025, staff potted native seedlings in biodegradable pots for planting.

Plants in teaching and research
The Herbal and Integrative Medicine internship (July 2025) and the new Department of Integrative Medicine teach the sustainable sourcing of medicinal plants.
Greenhouse workshop on plant-based, sustainably packaged cosmetics (October 2025).
GC-MS Analysis and Tyrosinase Inhibitory Potential of Pimenta dioica Flower Essential Oil — Phyton (DOI)
Quinoline: A Novel Solution for Next-Generation Pesticides, Herbicides, and Fertilizers — Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology (DOI)
Animal welfare in research
Studies using animals need approval under the Human and Animal Research Ethics policy (J.5); in November 2025 DMU trained researchers on the responsible use of experimental animals.
